Mathias was born in 1971 in Stockholm. Studied at the royal conservatory of music in Stockholm 1992-96 and after that working as a jazz pianist, both behind artists such as Barbara Hendricks, Rigmor Gustafsson, to name a few and as a bandleader. For instance with his own trio, which has made two albums for the Japanese label Spice of life - ”Young and foolish” in 2006 and ”In Copenhagen” with special guest Ed Thigpen in 2007. In september 2009 Mathias released his first album in Sweden in his own name - the album ”New Traditions” which has got great reviews. Mathias has played at the major scenes around Europe, for instance at the Nice and Montreux jazzfestivals, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Olympia in Paris and has also worked a lot together with saxophoneplayer and composer Magnus Lindgren in different constellations during the years. Mathias is also present in various recordings, both as a pianist and composer and has during the recent years also composed music for choir. Some of them published by the well known publisher Gehrmans. In 2009 Mathias was asked, together with the swedish composers Sven-David Sandström, Michael Waldenby and Jan Sandström to compose music for vocal quartet which was performed for the first time in october. Mathias has received a number of scholarships and awards during the years, most recent the ”Arne Domnérus-award” founded by the famous swedish saxophoneplayer Arne Domnérus. Other awards during the years are ”The Thore Svanerud Award” (1997), ”Stallbröderna” (1999) and awards from the city of Stockholm (2001), STIM, SKAP and Konstnarsnamnden. Studerade vid Musikhögskolan i Stockholm åren 1992-96 och har efter det arbetat som pianist i olika sammanhang, både med artister och musiker såsom Barbara Hendricks, Rigmor Gustafsson och Georg Riedel för att nämna några och som bandledare. T.ex. med den egna trion som hittills har gjort två album för det Japanska bolaget Spice of life; ”Young and foolish” år 2006 och ”In Copenhagen” tillsammans Ed Thigpen år 2007. I september 2009 släpptes den fösta skivan i helt eget namn i sverige - trioalbumet ”New Traditions” som fått mycket fina recensioner. Mathias har spelat på Europas ledande scener såsom jazzfestivalerna i Nice och Montreux, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées och Olympia i Paris och har också spelat mycket med saxofonisten och kompositören Magnus Lindgren genom åren. Mathias medverkar också på en mängd inspelningar, både som pianist och kompositör, och har de senaste åren komponerat musik för kör, bl.a. Gustaf Sjökvists kammarkör och Stockholms Motettkör. En del av det finns utgivet på Gehrmans förlag. 2009 blev Mathias tillfrågad, tillsammans med kompositörerna Sven-David Sandström, Michael Waldenby och Jan Sandström, att skriva en del var till en ”Allhelgonakonsert” för vokalkvartett som uruppfördes i oktober. Mathias har fått mängd stipendier och priser genom åren, senast Arne Domnérus stipendiet ”Guldsaxen”. Andra priser genom är ”Thore Swanerudstipendiet” (1997), ”Stallbröderna” (1999), stipendier från Stockholms Stad (2001), Konstnarsnämnden, STIM och SKAP. Medlem i SKAP sedan 2002.
